College Planning - Grade 9

A successful journey to college requires some preplanning. Below is a ninth grade checklist of things to do in order to prepare for college. Check off those things that you have done successfully.


• Work through College Grazing to “jump start” your college thinking.


• Talk to your school counselor about college planning. 


• Take classes that are challenging: English, mathematics, science, history, geography, a foreign language, government, civics, economics, and the arts


• Explore different career possibilities. Talk to various adults about their work—what they like and dislike. Check out the career search links in the menu "College Resources."


• Start saving for college. Talk to your parents about college costs. To understand more about college financing, explore the finance links listed in menu "College Resources."


• Talk to friends and relatives about their experiences in college.


• Discuss your career and college goals with your parents


• Do some reading about the benefits of going to college. Begin with Preparing for College (US Department of Education).


• Work on developing your study skills. Getting Ready for College provides some helpful tips for success.
