College Planning - Grade 12

A successful journey to college requires some preplanning. Below is a Twelveth grade checklist of things to do in order to prepare for college. Check off those things that you have done successfully.

• Retake College Grazing to affirm what you want in the college that you attend

Take or retake the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), American College Test (ACT), SAT Subject Tests, or any other exams required for admission to the colleges to which you are applying.

• Narrow your college choices into three different categories: high priority, priority, and back up. Be certain that you are clear about dates, requirements, and deadlines.

• After talking to your counselor, begin gathering required materials for application: transcripts, recommendations, and other requirements on the applications.

• Begin writing your college application essay or personal statement. Take the College Grazing Essay Challenge.

• Pursue scholarship opportunities. See the scholarship section at Additional Tools.

• Complete and submit your FAFSA. Complete all financial application forms.

• Consider early application (Nov. 1).

• Send in completed applications (usually due between Jan. 1 and Feb. 15)

Check with colleges to make certain that they have received your applications materials.

After you receive an acceptance letter, alert the college that you will be attending as soon as possible.
