A successful journey to college requires some preplanning. Below is a Twelfth grade checklist of things to do in order to prepare for college. Check off those things that you have done successfully.
-
Retake College Grazing to affirm what you want in the college that you attend
-
Take or retake the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), American College Test (ACT), SAT Subject Tests, or any other exams required for admission to the colleges to which you are applying.
-
Narrow your college choices into three different categories: high priority, priority, and back up. Be certain that you are clear about dates, requirements, and deadlines.
-
After talking to your counselor, begin gathering required materials for application: transcripts, recommendations, and other requirements on the applications.
-
Begin writing your college application essay or personal statement.
-
Pursue scholarship opportunities. See the scholarship section at Additional Tools.
-
Complete and submit your FAFSA. Complete all financial application forms.
-
Consider early application (Nov. 1).
-
Send in completed applications (usually due between Jan. 1 and Feb. 15)
-
Check with colleges to make certain that they have received your applications materials.
-
After you receive an acceptance letter, alert the college that you will be attending as soon as possible.
