Grade 11

A successful journey to college requires some preplanning. Below is an Eleventh grade checklist of things to do in order to prepare for college. Check off those things that you have done successfully.

  • Retake College Grazing to assess how your needs and wants for college are changing.
  • Continue to take challenging courses: AP courses and honors
  • Meet with your counselor to talk about college application.
  • Begin your college search in earnest. (see The College Locator on the "College Resources" drop down menu )
  • Attend college fairs.
  • Visit college campuses and take campus tours. Be sure that your visits include a variety of college types.
  • Talk to college admissions counselors at colleges that interest you.
  • Make a list of teachers who you feel will give you positive recommendations.
  • Investigate available scholarships offered by private organizations like unions, corporations, and religious groups. You may begin with the free scholarship search provided by the Department of Education.
  • Take the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), the ACT, SAT Subject Tests or any other exams required for admission to colleges you might want to attend. See the College Board for information.
  • Continue your savings program. Talk with your parents about college financing.
  • Request college applications. Be certain that you know exactly what each college requires—including dates for application. Be sure to ask about financial aid.
